BA214 BOS-LHR First Class 6 May 2013

Appologies for the lack of photos! Well, what a lovely short break that was! Boston has firmly become a favourite. The Mandarin Oriental once again lived up to expectations, some lovely cakes being left in the room sweetened it all. So we let the hotel arrange transport back to the airport for us (transport to the hotel was included in the rate), and a 4×4 was waiting for us bang on time, with our luggage loaded before we got to the car. A pleasant driver made for an enjoyable ride to the airport. On approach to the airport, police were pulling over selected vehicles for questioning, thankfully we were spared this and up to the terminal. Over to the First Class check-in counters, no queue, where we paired off to speed things along, one of the check in agents seems very chirpy and chatty, where as the other, while polite, seemed to be lacking a little bit of warmth. Boarding passes issued and told the directions to the lounge, we were on our way to security. Fast track seemed to be one of those silly queuing systems where the only benefit was to avoid walking in a long zig-zag (like many times at Miami), but once we got to the front we saw that fast track did have a dedicated lane and there was a queue that we avoided on the regular line. Fast track was fast and efficient at loading, but was lacking in organisation on the off-loading side, trays being forced into each other and popping up creating a mess, the staff just didn’t seem to be...

BA239 LHR-BOS First Class 1 May 2013

This trip was a joint Birthday outing for me and my farther-in-law (well that’s the excuse we gave our wallets!). As the in-laws hadn’t travelled first before we decided we would treat them and we would all go first class. This was the first time I was taking a non-morning long-haul flight (out of London), so was strange not knowing what to do with ourselves before heading to the airport! We had decided to get to the airport early as we had nothing better to do, and could always fall asleep in the CCR. We arrived at about 12:20 after a detour for some forgotten items, and dropped the car off at Valet Parking, very friendly service and not far to walk to get to first class check in. There were two members at staff standing at the welcoming podium, both welcomed us and one directed us to a couple of available check-in agents. Check in was efficient, if a little lacking in chit chat. Boarding passes issued and directed towards fast track. Now, fast track was fast for my partner but not for me! The security officers got suspicious about a laptop in the tray of the lady in front of me. After waiting for them to declare it suspicious, pull it aside and call the police, I kept waiting, then noticed that passengers that were behind me were getting their hand luggage through, where had mine gone?! Just as we were about to ask what had happened, we turned around and found they had re-loaded my items onto the belt behind. Nice to get my luggage but...

BA116 JFK-LHR First Class 14 Jan 2013

After 4 nights at the Mandarin Oriental NYC (again, highly recommend the suites), it was 4 more nights of stuffing ourselves in Manhattan at Jean George, Eleven Madison Park, Daniel and Per Se, it was time to go back home . We checked out and got our car to JFK, we arrived at about 19:15 and up to First Class check in. We had noticed earlier in the day that our flight BA182 was going to be fitted with the Old First seat, so we got to the airport early to eat in the CCR so we could go straight to sleep on the flight. At check in we had a desk each and they looked concerned when we said we were on the 182, they asked if we would mind going on an earlier flight. We replied yes as long as we got window seats. They tapped away and said there were no window seats available, by this time the check in supervisor had come over and again asked if we would mind getting an earlier flight. She then got on the phone and was saying “I’m putting 2 more on the flight, I’m sending down 5 more bags”. So we were then told she had got us on the BA116, window seats together and the flight would be leaving in 35 minutes, so there was just enough time to get a drink in the CCR. They were worried about LHR closing due to the Snow so were moving all First Class passengers off the last flight. Fantastic! New first and would get home about 3 hours earlier....

BA175 LHR-JFK First Class 3 Jan 2013

I had decided to try out BA after some disgusting service from Virgin on our last flight. So here is my trip report. Feel free to ask any questions  We had decided that as we wanted to make the most of the First experience, we would check in at 05:00 (when check-in and lounges open). So we thought the easiest and nicest option would be to stay at a hotel the night before so as not to be getting up at about 02:30. After looking about at hotels and parking options, including how easy it would be to get to T5, we settled on the T5 Sofitel with included parking. This did work out slightly more expensive than else where but the ease of just walking into the terminal was well worth the slight premium, that and it being 5*. So we arrived at the hotel, easily found a parking space, and then took the lift up to reception. We were warmly greeted and offered assistance with our bags that were taken to our room for us. Check in was quick and easy, we were soon on our way to the room. I would say that if you think of this hotel like a Travelodge/Premier Inn, you will be pleasantly surprised as I was. There was lots of room for the one night (although we didn’t have one of the smaller rooms); wonderful bathroom and all the furnishing were clean and modern. After sorting out clothes for the morning etc, we headed off for a wonder about the airport. Had a ride on the pod’s (they could do...
